West Coast Central Park

The name "Central Park" usually conjures up images of romantic carriage rides in Manhattan, but there's a new park with the same name on the West Coast that could give its East Coast counterpart a run for its money. An urban infill project built on the site of Howard Hughes' old LA headquarters, the 9 acre public outdoor space has been described as a "designer" park in reference to its perfectly manicured landscaping, relaxing "outdoor rooms," amphitheaters, and crisscrossing bands or "bridges," which are actually special programs that extend across the park. Designed by Michael Maltzan Architects, the park also features ponds and pools, sporting facilities, native plantings and cool outdoor structures like the turban-shaped bandshell seen above.
